The Vegas Golden Knights have drafted centre Zach Dean of the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques with the 29th overall pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft.
The 18-year-old Newfie had 10 goals and 20 points in 23 games for the Olympiques this season.
Dean was a major offensive producer in midget and the success followed him to the QMJHL. His foot speed and fast hands will propel him as he continues in his development. There is a lot of intrigue in his puck carrying abilities and his strong work ethic.
The early projections for Dean are a middle six forward who plays at his natural centre position or translates to the wing.
In their young history, the Golden Knights have taken a centre with their first selection in all five drafts they’ve been involved in. Vegas’ next selection is 36th overall with rounds two through seven getting underway Saturday at 8 A.M. EST (11 A.M. EST).
