While they still remain in a dogfight for a playoff berth, the Vegas Golden Knights are doing everything in their power to ensure they get in, including a 3-2 overtime win over the Canucks on Sunday to extend their winning streak to five games. As of today, the Golden Knights are +2600 to win the Stanley Cup per Betway, the official betting partner of the NHL.
Despite battling a multitude of injuries, they have won five-straight games and currently have a one-point lead over the Dallas Stars for the final wild card position in the Western Conference. The odds still do not favor them given the fact Dallas has three games in hand, but this group is only focusing on what they can control right now.
“They’re critical,” DeBoer said when asked how important his teams recent wins are. “We need every win we can get. Guys are rallying, they’re digging deep. We’ve got a short lineup almost every night here. We’re asking for different contributions from all kinds of different people and guys are stepping up and giving us that. I thought (Lehner) did a great job tonight coming in after being out for a month. He gave us a real good game.”
As DeBoer mentioned, Golden Knights goaltender Lehner was able to return from a lower-body injury on Sunday night against the Canucks and looked no worse for the wear as he kicked aside 26 of 28 shots faced in the 3-2 overtime win. If this group is indeed to get into the postseason, they will need efforts like that from Lehner on a consistent basis down the stretch.
