UNLV adds Texas HS edge-rusher Braxton White

As fall camp begins for UNLV and the focus for the upcoming season intensifies, the Rebels are continuing to look to build for the future. The Rebels picked up their second commitment this week from the class of 2022 as Braxton White announced his commitment to UNLV today.

White comes in at 6-4, 215 pounds and is entering his senior year at Texas High in Texarkana, Texas. 247Sports does not have a ranking on him but says that he played multiple front-line spots on defense last year. They also have him listed as an edge rusher where he played last year.

In his junior year highlights on 247sports and MaxPreps, White showed great quickness off the ball, which helped him get into the backfield to cause sacks or tackles for loss. There were plays where he was able to get off the offensive lineman and utilized his speed to chase down the ball and limit any gain from happening.

White committing to UNLV is another example of the Rebels looking to add depth to the defense, and specifically on the edge where the Rebels want to create pressure and get in the backfield.

Last season, UNLV had plenty of depth issues on defense due to COVID and opt-outs. The main focus of these recruiting classes is to help build depth at every position so Head Coach Marcus Arroyo and his staff have options.

“We feel much better than we did last year as far as depth goes,” defensive coordinator Peter Hansen said after the second day of fall camp. “And we’re constantly working to improve that depth.”

White posted on his social media, three days ago, photos from a recent visit to UNLV where he spent time with UNLV outside linebackers coach Kenwick Thomas on August 3.

Last Sunday, the Rebels picked up a commitment from three-star defensive end Aubrey Scott, who was the first defensive player for the class of 2022.
