The Runnin’ Rebels concluded their 2021-22 season Thursday with a 59-56 loss to the Wyoming Cowboys in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West conference tournament. As the #5 seed in the tournament, the Runnin’ Rebels received a first-round bye, but came up short in the end of a very close game.

Wyoming’s Xavier Dusell hit a three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining to give the Cowboys a one-point lead. After two made free-throws by the Cowboys, the Runnin’ Rebels had one last opportunity to tie the game. Star senior guard Bryce Hamilton attempted a three-point jumpshot to tie the game, but the basket didn’t fall and the Cowboys walked away with the victory over the Runnin’ Rebels.

UNLV finishes their first season under head coach Kevin Kruger with an 18-14 overall record, a significant improvement from their 12-15 season a year ago under T.J. Otzelberger. The team appears to be headed in the right direction in the Kevin Kruger era.

Among the team’s accomplishments on the season was Bryce Hamilton’s accomplishment of being named to the All-Mountain West first-team, as well as honorable mention honors for senior forward Royce Hamm Jr.

The Runnin’ Rebels have an outside shot of being invited to the NIT, but are not currently projected to be invited according to dratings.com.
