There’s no sugar-coating the Raiders’ failures this season. Expectations were high for a team that brought in a new coaching staff, scheme, and high-profile additions via trade and in free agency. Today, the Raiders are 2-5 and just put up a miserable 24-0 road performance against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.
In a recent NFL.com article, the Raiders were named the most disappointing team in the NFL. The NFL.com article noted that the Raiders were in discussion as the AFC West’s top team before the season started. It says the Raiders showed life in their 38-10 win against the lowly Texans, but bottomed out against the Saints.
The article even links to a tweet from ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez, who reported that Raiders owner Mark Davis had yet another postgame meeting with first year head coach Josh McDaniels, suggesting that ownership isn’t happy with their new staff.
Time will tell if the Raiders will right the ship in the second half of the season. Although the 2022 Raiders are much better on paper than their 2021 team, there’s no doubt that last year’s team played a much more inspired brand of football on their way to a 10-7 season and playoff berth.
