The Las Vegas Raiders will be without rookie safety Tyree Gillespie for a few more days as Head Coach Jon Gruden confirmed Gillespie suffered a “mild soft tissue” injury.

Gillespie has now missed several days of Raiders practice including their first padded practice Tuesday. The rookie did practice throughout OTAs and minicamp, and was last seen on the field earlier last week.

The Raiders chose the Missouri safety with the 143rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is expected to be the primary backup at free safety.

With Gillespie out, Dallin Leavitt, Karl Joseph, and Trevon Moehrig have all been rotating at the free safety position. When Gillespie is back, Joseph will likely practice as the strong safety behind Johnathan Abram. Leavitt is likely the third safety behind Gillespie and Moehrig.
