The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-0 through two weeks of preseason football, and to wrap up the final exhibition game of the 2021 preseason, the Silver and Black are headed to Santa Clara to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
The vast majority of the Raiders’ starters have yet to play in any of the two preseason games. Both the Rams and Seahawks also kept their starters out. However, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan will not be taking the same approach. Instead, he plans to play every single one of his starters:
Jon Gruden was asked about his plans following the Rams game. Gruden responded, “We got to see who’s on the bubble, who we really need to see to make this football team, and we would like to get some of the guys a few reps, but at the end of the day, I think health, and keeping the right 53 is on the top of the list right now.”
Based on Jon Gruden’s vague response, we are not likely going to see the starters. However, there is a chance we see Alex Leatherwood again, and maybe even Marcus Mariota. When asked about Mariota, Gruden mentioned he had a quad strain but said, “We think he has a chance to play against the 49ers.”
Either way, the Niners are planning to play their starters, so the Raiders backups (or starters) better be ready to bring it as the stadium will be packed with Raider fans.
