Las Vegas police have confirmed to CBS affiliate 8 News Now that Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III was the driver in a fatal crash early Tuesday morning. Ruggs “showed signs of impairment” and is facing a felony charge of DUI resulting in death.
TMZ first reported Tuesday that Ruggs III was involved in a car crash early Tuesday morning.
Hector Mejia of the CBS affiliate 8 News Now said “both cars caught fire” and that Metro Police confirmed that “fatal detectives have taken over the investigation but they have not said or given out a number of injuries or fatalities.”
8 News Now says the crash occurred on Rainbow Boulevard near Spring Valley Parkway, causing the road to be closed for hours.
TMZ reported that a source close to Ruggs III “expects him to be OK.”
Attorneys David Chesnoff, Esq. and Richard Schonfeld, Esq. released the following statement on behalf of Ruggs III:
“On behalf of our client Henry Ruggs III, we are conducting our own investigation as of this writing and ask everyone to reserve judgement until all the facts are gathered.”
The Raiders released the following statement:
“The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas. We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
