Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said that QB Derek Carr and RT Alex Leatherwood both practiced in full on Wednesday. RB Josh Jacobs, LG Richie Incognito, and safeties Roderic Teamer and Dallin Leavitt all did not practice.
The Raiders (2-0) host the Miami Dolphins (1-1) Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has been ruled out for the matchup and backup QB Jacoby Brissett will start.
“We’re familiarizing ourselves with the Dolphins system,” Gruden said. “They have a new coordinator, Chan Gailey is no longer there. So coach Godsey does things a little bit differently.”
“First thing is familiarize yourself with their scheme. And then their personnel – they’ve got great receivers, a very, very formidable tight end, and Brissett can extend plays. So we got a lot of respect for him. We’ve played against him in the past. He’s a dual-threat, capable of doing a lot of different things.”
Gruden isn’t letting the team’s 2-0 start affect his mindset, and he spoke about negativity during his press conference. Gruden is focused on creating a positive environment for his team, and his enthusiasm showed through when asked about letting negativity creep in.
“I try not to worry about the negative things,” Gruden said. “I’m at a point now where I like to feed the birds, I like to go fishing, I like to have a good time. And I’m going to have a good time coaching. I like these players, and I don’t give a damn about negativity.”
“There’s enough of it in politics, in our social world right now, and we’re here to try to create a positive, Las Vegas vibe and have some fun here. That’s what we’re doing.”
