As it pertains to boxing, wins are wins no matter the result. The boxing record is about the only thing that can distinguish you. That’s why boxers take fights with lesser opponents so they can beef up their resumes. Jake Paul sounds like he’s finished with padding his resume with wins versus weaker opponents. He wants real boxers now.
Paul, with limited boxing history, has vanquished all four of his opponents to date. Besides the fight with Woodley, Paul has had an easy path to his 4-0 record. While interest remains high, tough opponents are what Paul and the fans want to see. Defeating opponents of lesser skill isn’t cutting it anymore.
Paul has defeated a fellow YouTuber, retired NBA player, a former MMA fighter, and Tyron Woodley. This list is borderline pathetic besides Woodley. None of these guys have the boxing pedigree to withstand a beating in the ring for multiple rounds. Paul has been training hard, hence the reason he is still undefeated.
At this moment, it looks like a rematch with Tyron Woodley is unlikely for several reasons. Paul’s next challenger would be a gigantic leap and a huge test to gauge how good he is. The fighter is none other than Tommy Fury.
This potential bout has been on the docket for a while. It would seem that Paul has Fury at the top of the list of future matches.
“I think Tommy Fury is at the top of that list. He’s skilled, he’s undefeated, and he’s a real boxer. He has like 4 million followers on Instagram, which is good engagement. He has the fans from like his relationship show [Love Island].”
Jake Paul sports a 4-0 record while Fury maintains a perfect 7-0 record. As a result, a fight like this is what Paul is envisioning on his way to boxing stardom. Continuing to beat worse boxers just for money doesn’t make too much sense right now. For Paul, it’s about enhancing his brand and image.
This is the type of fight that will catapult your career or sink it. If this fight comes to fruition, it will be an epic fight between two undefeated fighters.
