If you want to be among the all-time greats, you have to take on the toughest challenges. For Cris Cyborg, that challenge is named Kayla Harrison. Harrison recently dismantled Genah Fabian, who failed to land a single punch, by a first-round TKO.
Harrison needs a new contract and could be looking to join Bellator MMA. If this happened, a fight would seem to be in the cards. It doesn’t seem to matter to Cyborg if they can reach an agreement to fight. Harrison just isn’t good enough in Cyborg’s eyes. A better challenge would have been former UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
“I believe Ronda Rousey was more dangerous than Kayla. Her transitions were fast, her technique was fast and I know [Kayla] got a gold medal in the Olympics. But I think it’s a different level about the speed, about the transitions for the submissions,” Cyborg said.
That’s a lot of respect toward one legend, but not a lot of respect for a potentially dangerous opponent inside the octagon. Cyborg has history on her side to be able to talk about Harrison like this. Kayla Harrison hasn’t fought an opponent that is on the level of Cris Cyborg.
If this fight does happen, Cyborg would be a heavy favorite. Harrison would have an uphill battle to climb. However, in a gruesome sport like MMA, you want to face adversity head-on. Cyborg is doing a lot of talking right now. Harrison might have her chance to respond one day in the Bellator MMA.
