According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Vegas Golden Knights may be in the market for a goaltender as teams get set for free agency.

Pagnotta mentioned in a tweet Wednesday morning that there is a real possibility both Robin Lehner and Laurent Brossoit may not be ready to return by the time the season starts in October. This would mean that Logan Thompson, who has just 20 career games under his belt, would be forced to carry the load until either returned.

The good news is that Pagnotta mentioned both Lehner and Brossoit may be good to go by November. Still, that could be a full month into the season, which led Pagnotta to speculating that Golden Knights management may look for a veteran to help hold down the fort to begin the 2022-23 campaign.

As for available goalies at the moment, names like Jack Campbell and Ville Husso are at the top. However, it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the Golden Knights to go after either goaltender, as both will command fairly lucrative contracts on the open market. Instead, they may be more interested in someone such as Braden Holtby, Thomas Greiss, Jaroslav Halak or Martin Jones, all of whom have been around for a long time and would come cheap. This will be an interesting situation to monitor come free agency, which is set to begin on July 13.
